Resistance Revisited

In my last post, I promised to write more about resistance. Realizing my writing hiatus had extended far too long, I sat to do so last week. But with the temperatures dancing into the 60s in New York, and the beach beckoning for my company, I found myself quite resistant to writing about resistance. So I followed my bliss outdoors, confident I’d be a better match to the topic this week. Lo and behold…

Today, it’s a topic that comes more naturally, since I am not so much intoxicated by the weather as I am under it. Just a bit. Just enough so that I know not to push myself. I haven’t had a cold or anything like it in years, and I don’t intend to make one part of my story by writing about it in any depth. The only reason I mention feeling a tad not myself is because it is a perfect opportunity to embrace resistance.

Resistance comes in a plethora of shapes and sizes and is operating any time we experience negative emotion. Whether we’re consciously resistant to what the present moment is presenting or entirely unaware of the mental chatter in the background of our minds, saying no to life never feels good.
